Part 67: Chapter #8: Ganlon's Betrayal/Radcot's Attack, Part 2
Last chance for any submissions to the contestAnother short update I thought I'd get out of the way now...
Ruin Branch: Intro and Chapter #8: Ganlon's Betrayal/Radcot's Attack
The Ruin Branch and You: Getting Onboard the Crazy Train
Alright, so the Ruin Branch can be a bit tricky to get to. After you finish the game, you'll get a chance to save your 'game data,' so do that. To make sure that it works, you should load you game data every time you play a mission, but most of the time it will work out okay.
Now, once you've beaten the game at least once, it doesn't matter which Branch, load up your game data and start a new game. Pick the Kingdom path and just settle in. The first eight missions are going to be retreads. It's kind of a bummer. Whether you go to meet Radcot or not doesn't affect your chances of going to the Ruin Branch, but you won't get Nana either way, and the extra experience from Dionne's fight is probably going to be helpful.
Still with me, good. The battle in chapter 8 will happen normally. Sadira will show up and then....well, let's see, shall we...
Chapter #8: Ganlon's Betrayal, Part 2, Ruin Branch
The conversation begins as normal. Allow me to summarize:
: I've decided to randomly pop up again because I wanted to ask what you plan do with the Ultragunner, it being a weapon of matchless power and all.
: Shut the fuck up, Sadira!
If you've done everything right, you get this choice. Oh, we could preach peace....but fuck Sadira, fuck the Empire, and fuck peace!
: I will conquer the Continent!
Are you shitting me, game? I have Let's Played forty of your missions and seen four of your endings. I can never be made whole again. There is nothing left for me in this game but blood.
: It is as Galvas says. With the power of the Ultragunner, I will unite the nations of the Continent.
The other choice just punts you back to the Kingdom branch, in case you're wondering.
: Bastion!
: Don't you understand? When the Continent is under my control, the wars will finally end!
: So you intend to rule the nations of the Continent with the politics of fear and the threat of violence? You'll be nothing but a dictator and a tyrant!
Dude, he's a hereditary monarch, he was going to be a dictator and a tyrant no matter what.
: I demand that you do not speak with such rudeness to His Highness!
: You probably think that would never happen to you, Bastion, but it will! You will become addicted to the power you wield. You will become jaded, and corrupted, and evil!
: That WON'T happen to me, Sadira! I would never dishonor myself or my father with such behavior!
: All your words mean nothing if your actions belie them!
: It's not fair for you to compare me with anyone else! I am unique in this world, Sadira, just as you are!
: I want to believe you, Bastion, but you must understand why I cannot place my faith in you.
: Yes, I understand...because you are too bitter to have faith in anything!
: How dare you make such an assumption, Bastion!
: You made assumptions about me first, Sadira!
: Princess, perhaps we should leave until you have calmed down.
: Control yourself, Bastion! There's no need to yell at the girl!
Hey, screw that! I don't care if this scene somehow turns Sadira into a warped, possibly insane, version of herself, damn it! Full Ahead!
: Go ahead, Bastion! Try to follow through on your plans! I guarantee that you will fail!
: And I guarantee I will succeed, simply to spite you!
: Let us depart, Franco!
: Yes, Princess. Take care, Prince Bastion.
: I will show her that I can achieve power without corruption!
: (I've never seen Bastion so worked up before...)
And then the rest of the chapter plays out as if you hadn't just created a ripple of madness that will soon spread throughout the Continent.
Next Time: Things go terribly, terribly wrong...
